The two documents
Osprey - All Mighty Guarantee. Defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, repaired or replaced free of charge. 30 years on most products; seven on Poco, five on Soelden & Sopris Pro and Raptor & Raven Pro. Requires proof of purchase from Osprey or an authorized retailer.
Gregory - Lifetime Guarantee. Products guaranteed free from defects in workmanship and materials for as long as you own them. In place since 1996 with the same wording.
On paper Gregory wins, because there is no date. In practice the gap is narrower than it looks, because Osprey’s repair program is the most visible in the industry and 30 years is longer than most people own a pack.
Suspension: the thing you will actually feel
Osprey Anti-Gravity is a continuous mesh panel that wraps from the hipbelt to the shoulders, suspending the pack slightly off your back. It is extremely comfortable and ventilates better than anything here. At the very top of the load range it flexes a little more than a rigid frame.
Gregory Response A3 adjusts in more axes - torso length, hipbelt angle, shoulder harness - and transfers heavy loads to the hips more decisively. It takes longer to set up properly and rewards doing so.
For loads under about 35 pounds, Osprey is the more pleasant carry. Above that, Gregory.
Repair versus replace, in practice
Osprey’s guarantee is explicitly repair-or-replace and the company operates real repair facilities. A ten-year-old pack with a failed buckle comes back as a ten-year-old pack with a new buckle.
That matters more than it sounds. A replacement policy on a pack you have spent a decade getting to fit is not obviously what you want - you want the pack back, working.
The receipt problem
Osprey requires proof of purchase. Over a 30-year horizon, a till receipt is worthless - thermal paper fades to blank within a few years.
Save the order confirmation email in a folder you will still have in 2050. That is five seconds of work and it is the difference between having a 30-year guarantee and having a story about one.
The verdict
Gregory if the wording matters to you and you carry heavy. No end date, better load transfer, more adjustment.
Osprey if comfort and ventilation matter more, and if a visible, well-run repair program is worth more to you than an extra decade of theoretical coverage. For most hikers it is.
And as with socks: if one fits your back and the other does not, that settles it regardless of the paperwork. Fit beats warranty when they conflict.
