The All Mighty Guarantee, Explained

Osprey's guarantee is one of the best in outdoor gear and it is widely misdescribed as a lifetime warranty. Here is what it actually says.

What it says

The All Mighty Guarantee covers all defects in materials and workmanship under normal use during the guarantee period. If a defect is found, Osprey will repair or replace the product free of charge - whether that is a torn piece of fabric, a worn-out buckle or a broken zipper.

The guarantee period is 30 years on most products. Exceptions: Poco carries seven years; Soelden & Sopris Pro and Raptor & Raven Pro carry five.

Claims may be made on products purchased directly from Osprey or from an authorized retailer, and proof of purchase is required.

Why it keeps being called a lifetime warranty

Because for most owners it functions like one. A pack bought at 30 is covered until 60, by which point most people are not carrying 65 liters up a hill. The practical difference between 30 years and forever is small for the person buying it.

It is still not what the word means, and we would rather print the number. Gregory, by contrast, publishes a guarantee with no stated end.

The strongest part: it is a repair program

The wording is repair or replace, and Osprey operates real repair facilities. That matters more than it sounds.

A pack is a garment you have spent years adjusting to your body. A replacement policy hands you a new pack and your fit back to square one. A repair policy hands you your pack with a working buckle - which is almost always what you actually wanted.

What it does not cover

The written scope is defects in materials and workmanship. Crashing a pack down a scree slope, an airline conveyor eating a strap, or a bear going through it are not defects.

In practice Osprey’s interpretation is widely reported as generous, and we have no reason to doubt that. But a reader planning a purchase should plan against the written scope rather than against a reputation.

The receipt is the real risk

Thirty years is a long time to keep a document. A thermal till receipt fades to blank within a few years, which means a lot of people who are technically covered will find they cannot prove it.

Save the order confirmation email somewhere durable - a cloud folder, an archive label, anywhere you will still be able to search in 2050. That is the single highest-value five seconds in this entire guide.

How to claim

Osprey operates an online guarantee request process. Photograph the failure clearly, include the proof of purchase, and describe what happened plainly. Packs are sent in, assessed and either repaired or replaced.

Turnaround varies by season - peak hiking months are slower. If the pack is needed for a trip, start the process well in advance rather than two weeks before.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Is the All Mighty Guarantee a lifetime warranty?

No. It covers defects in materials and workmanship for 30 years on most products. Some lines are shorter: Poco at seven years, Soelden and Sopris Pro and Raptor and Raven Pro at five.

Does it cover damage I caused?

It covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. The remedy is repair or replacement free of charge, and Osprey's reputation for interpreting claims generously is good - but the written scope is defects, not accidents.

Do I need the receipt?

Yes. Requests may be made on products purchased directly from Osprey or from an authorized retailer, and proof of purchase is required. Keep the order confirmation email rather than the till receipt.

What does Osprey actually do with a claimed pack?

Repairs it where it can - a torn panel, a worn buckle, a broken zipper are all repairs rather than replacements. That is the strongest part of the program and the part most useful on a pack you have spent years getting to fit.
