Editorial Policy

What gets published here, what does not, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Independence

No brand has paid for a position in a list on this site, for a mention, or for a review. We accept no sponsored posts, no paid guest articles and no gifted products in exchange for coverage. Our only revenue is affiliate commission, set out in full on the disclosure page.

Commission rates vary by category and by retailer. We do not consider them when ranking. Several pages on this site rank a cheaper product above a more expensive one, which is the only evidence of this claim that is worth anything.

How a product gets recommended

  1. It must exist and be buyable. Every product we feature resolves to a live retailer listing, verified by a brand-token check against the returned product title. We do not feature products we cannot link to.
  2. Its construction must be established. Welt or cement, clad or disc-bottom, removable cell or sealed - whichever matters in that category.
  3. Its warranty must be read, not assumed. From the brand’s own published document, quoted, with the exclusions included and the source cited.
  4. Its repair path must be established or declared absent. If nothing is published, the page says so.

A product that fails step one is not featured, however good it is. Several excellent direct-only makers appear in our guides as context and never as picks for exactly this reason.

Sourcing

Every warranty, repair-path and country-of-manufacture claim on this site traces to a published source, listed at the foot of the article with the date it was read. The sources are the brand’s own pages wherever one exists, because a brand’s warranty is a legal document and a third-party summary of it is not.

Where we could not find a published term, the page says “Not published”. We never fill that gap with a plausible guess.

What we will not publish

  • Invented testing. No “after three years and 500 miles” claims. We own none of these products and we say so on every page.
  • Fabricated reviews or testimonials. There are none on this site, because we have none that are real.
  • Star ratings or scores. A number implies a measurement we did not make. There is no review or rating markup anywhere on this site.
  • Invented credentials. Nobody here is a cobbler, a bladesmith, a materials engineer or a veterinarian, and no page implies otherwise.
  • Prices typed by a human. There is no price field in our content model. Prices come from a live data layer or they do not appear.
  • Urgency or false social proof. No countdown timers, no “only 2 left”, no invented reader counts.
  • Padded lists. If only four products in a category are worth owning, the list has four products on it.

Declining to recommend

Some categories have no good answer, and saying so is more useful than picking a least-bad option. The clearest example on this site is retractable dog leashes: they fail in a specific, predictable way, and we do not recommend one at any price. We would rather lose that commission than send a reader toward a product we think is a bad idea.

Corrections

When we find that something here is wrong - a warranty term that has changed, a product mis-described, a construction detail we got backwards - we correct the page and update its modified date. We do not quietly delete the claim and pretend it was never there.

Where the correction materially changes a recommendation, we say what changed in the article itself so a returning reader is not confused about why the ranking moved.

Reader corrections are the most useful messages we get. Send them to contact@forgeandforever.com or through the contact form, ideally with a link to the brand document.

Updates and dates

Every article carries a published date and, where it differs, an updated date. Those dates are real. They are not set to the build time and they do not change when prices refresh - which is why the sitemap on this site can be trusted about what has actually changed.

Authorship

Everything here is written by one person, named on every article and on the about page. There are no ghost-written bylines and no AI-generated articles published under a human name without disclosure.
